The Cycles of the Year...As Above, So Below

I have been thinking and planning in all areas of my life as of late. I have always felt a sense of renewal in the fall, as it coincides with the start of the school year! It came to me that I should post on the calendar, and the importance of how we keep/view time. The ancients celebrated a cycle that highlighted 8 important markers/times during the year, coinciding with the cycles of the season.

These cycles mark...

The New Year (March 21/The Vernal (Spring) Equinox: When day and night are in complete balance
May 1 (May Day); This marks the ancient festival of the May Pole (a time of fertility/ hence the phallic nature of the pole that was used)
June 21 (Summer Solstice) The Longest Day of the Year (From this day forward the light begins to wane/summer in Northern Hemisphere)
August 1 (Start of Harvest/ A Festival of Bread in ancient times)
September 21 (The Fall Equinox, day and night are in balance) Thanksgiving
Oct 31/Nov 1 (The time of year when the veil between worlds in the thinnest) hence the celebration of Halloween
December 21 (The Winter Solstice) The longest night of the Year when the ancients celebrated the rebirth of the sun
Feb. 2 (A fire festival) A night to sit by the fire and focus on rebirth/renewal as we head into spring

This cycle ties into the age old axiom "as above, so below" which is an explanation of how the cosmos is reflected in both the micro and macro. The above clip briefly explains how the axiom is related to the map, cycles of the year, our bodies, astrology, and fairy tales/folklore...

The Gregorian calendar is somewhat of an enslaving entity, in that it triggers consumption (Christmas, Valentine's Day are prime examples), and removes us from the natural, seasonal cycles that people have celebrated for thousands of years. The New Year really should be considered March 21, when the Earth is awaking from its slumber, and is headed into the renewal/rebirth of spring (hence the Christian placement of Easter during this time of year, after the first full moon, after the Vernal Equinox), with the egg as a symbol of rebirth.

Elder Don Alejandro: Mayan Message to the World

Given my recent post on the Mayan Calendar, I thought I would share this clip of a Mayan elders message to the world! Enjoy.

A&E(Astrology): Secret in the Stars - Part 1 of 5

I have been doing research for several books (which I am writing). This research has me looking at history, and I find it interesting that historically all major scholars considered Astrology as one of the core subjects. The study of the stars has been with us since ancient times. In fact the A&E clip on Astrology that I have included with this post, states that we can trace the study of the stars back 20,000 to Paleolithic Man.

The modern day church has distanced itself from the study of the stars, when in fact much of the Bible is coded astrology (Astrotheology). In fact, did you know that Easter is determined by the date of the first full moon after the Vernal Equinox (March 21), and is celebrated on the following Sunday. Or the fact that we are currently in the age of Pisces (hence the Jesus fish used by the church). There are many examples of coded astrology within the bible, and Christian practices. Two years ago, when I visited Prague, there was a beautiful church with a clock, surrounded by astrological symbols (this is common practice in old European churches, many of which are built on top of older Pagan sacred sites).

Some interesting highlights form the A&E documentary:

* The invasion of Alexander the Great (in the Middle East) in 331 BC brought Babylonian Astrology back to the Greeks
* Many past leaders have hired and Astrologer to aid with their decisions, including Elizabeth I whose astrologer was Dr. John Dee
* In 1914 famous Astrologer Evangeline Adams is arrested based on an obscure NYC law, but later has the case dismissed after accurately predicting an outcome of an anonymous person (she said that the person whose chart she was doing would die early in a swimming accident, which in fact did happen, the chart was for the deceased son of the judge who died in a swimming accident)

One issue that stood out to me in the piece above, was when they touched on the Mayan Calendar. A quote from the documentary referencing 2012 "Cosmos would come to an end, and a profound new order would be established". To me, this quote seems to perpetuate fear, when in fact many scholars believe that the calendar is tracking the evolution of consciousness. So, that when the calendar ends, it may be symbolic of a completion in past consciousness as are minds expand beyond the constriction of 3D linear space and time. See my post on the Mayan Calendar for further information. What are your thoughts?

My blog title spotted in Herodotus

How cool! I found an excerpt with the title of my blog right form the pages of myth...

"For the storm continued during three days; but at last the Magians, making sacrifice of victims and singing incantations to appease the Wind by enchantments, [198] and in addition to this, offering to Thetis and Nereids, caused it to cease on the fourth day, or else for some reason it abated of its own will. Now they offered sacrifice to Thetis, being informed by the Ionians of the story that she was carried off from the place by Peleus, and that the whole headland of Sepias belonged to her and to the other Nereids."

Tarot and Beyond...

Hello everyone! I have been thinking and planning over the last several days, and am excited about the path that I have mapped out for upcoming posts! I have gotten several hits on the Tarot postings, and am happy that people are reading :)

I will continue my musings on the Tarot, with the hope that more people look at the deck for study and self reflection. If you are already a reader, I hope that I am able to add to your studies, with my own thoughts about the cards, and the magic that they create, when they connect us to our guide within.

However, I am not solely focused on Tarot, and have much more to come, including a look at Egypt (both modern and ancient) in a way, I am certain most have not seen!

In Tarot, I will begin to write about the Major Arcana (previous blog posts, give an introduction to the the cards, their history, and make-up), which is a metaphor for the hero's quest, researched and explained by Joseph Campbell (If you would like more information, a great book to read: A Hero With a Thousand Faces). The Major Arcana can also be termed the journey of the fool or soul. These cards highlight moments on the path of the seeker (which we all represent, the seeker is seen as the fool within the card deck). The Major Arcana highlights steps/rites of passage as we learn, grow, and head towards enlightenment.

The psychologist Carl Maslow, referred to this journey as a hierarchy, that we navigate, as we head towards self actualization (enlightenment). However, he recognized that not everyone would actually reach the top of the pyramid (his model, is set into the framework of a pyramid) within this lifetime. Examples of enlightened humans, include the Ascended Masters: Jesus, Buddha, Mary, Confucius. Historical teachers, that went through the journey of the fool (awakening) and came out enlightened, and in turn spread their message of truth to the rest of the world.

The Tarot highlights, we are all on a journey, as we seek out meaning to our existence, the path is not easy, hence some of the "darker" cards like death, the tower, devil, and judgement. But, always remember the cards have layered meanings, and can hold several insights, depending on the other cards drawn, and the seekers question. Take death for instance, with every door that closes, another opens, so all that dies, makes way for something new!

Readers are finding my blog, and it excites me! I would love to begin and establish a community here on Nereids' Enchantments, so if you have the time, and are inspired, please leave your thoughts, comments and opinions!!! Thank you for reading.

The Tarot Skeptic Part One

I wanted to look at Tarot form all angels, it is interesting to look at the Tarot through the eyes of a skeptic (since I have been intuitively drawn to the cards since my teens). Which, leads me to my first point, if you have a closed mind to the cards, then they are most likely not for you (at this time). Because the main reason the Tarot works, is that the questioner believes (this point is explained in greater detail, in my introductory post on Tarot). This fact, very much can be paralleled with religion. Those who believe in various disciplines often cite that there beliefs are grounded in a faith first principal.

Yet with Tarot, if you approach the cards with an open mind, and are willing to work with them, they will prove their abilities to you through the fact that you will begin to see patterns arise, as you read daily, that your unconscious is pointing out to guide you on your path. Therefore, Tarot is for everyone, regardless of your religious background, because the cards are a tool for conversing with your higher self. Just as prayer is a tool for conversing with God, Goddess, or whatever choice terminology you have for source.

The Tarot readers main companion (besides the cards) is there journal, where they can record readings, and reflections, to review later. Reviewing your journal at a later date, will often reveal deep insights, once removed from the present, and many times the anxiety, that we have when we approach the cards for answers to the highs and lows of life. You can ask for the cards to show you a sign, pull a card, and go about your day with your eyes open, and you are most likely to find a connection (meant for you to see) based on the card that you pulled. Many, would state that this is a random chance, but if you believe, and have an open mind, the Tarot is there as a tool to teach and guide you. The fact that the cards are based on a game is what adds to their mystic, and perhaps has the greater message that life is a game, and we need to remember to relax, play, and have fun everyday!

The above clip gives an amazing synopsis of the Tarot and how the cards are set up. It then goes onto to state problems that the skeptic has with Tarot in general. As someone who feels that the cards hold value (not everyone will resonate with Tarot) I think that the skeptic is a bit dismissive of the cards use as a tool for meditation (because this is one of their most important components). Deep insights can be gained by drawing the cards, and leaving the spread out in a visible place for reflection. In fact, I would say that the cards are best used for yourself, to highlight themes or guide you based on the questions you ask of the cards, and then the cards that you pull.

I pull no more then three cards, for a reading. But, this is an intuitive tool, so pull the cards however you are guided to. Learning the Tarot by Joan Bunning is an excellent starting point if you are interested in beginning to learn about the cards, spreads, and what not, it is a course that is designed to teach you to read the cards (I believe she often uses the classic celtic cross spread to illustrate readings). The course is also online, but the site was down when I just checked, so I am not sure if that is still the case. Tarot for Self by Mary K. Greer is also another great book for the beginner.

Another response I have to the above clip, Tarot is in no way meant to take the place of medical advice. However, the cards can show you about medical concerns, but that does not mean you are seeking them to trump common sense, sometimes in life you need a doctor. But, what I will say, is that I think as a whole we have been pushed (by society) to rely on outside sources to help, heal, and support us, when in fact we all have the power to direct or lives, health, and healing, when we follow intuition, and listen to self.

Now I will address the cards use in divination, the cards can highlight themes and upcoming events. But, it is with the understanding that nothing is ever set in stone, and that people are in charge of their lives, and their futures. If you seek a reader for insight into the future, then this is when your intuition is most important, and meant to guide you. I think that psychics, and Tarot card readers, should always be approached as a means of entertainment. An ethical reader, will have a code of conduct, that they would be more than happy to share if asked. See if that code resonates with you, if you feel that you are questioning the validity of whoever is reading for you. There are some amazing readers out there, you just have to find them ;)

The value of Tarot is in its power as a tool for personal use. The Tarot is a tool meant to aid and guide you, opening your eyes to the signs that life presents, when you wake up and listen, the tarot connects you with your higher self. Other points/tips, I have decks that are meant solely for me so that only my energy is being picked up in personal readings. This is good to know if you plan to read for other people. If you believe that gemstones hold energetic power, then a cleansed moonstone is a great companion for your deck, which you should store wrapped in a silk or cotton cloth. Even better, put you wrapped deck in a wooden box.>

Tarot History: Tarocchi Part 1 - Introducing the Card Games for Tarot!

So, today I have been inspired to post on the Tarot. I have been working with/studying the cards for over a decade, and still consider myself a novice reader, because there is so much history, myth, and layers to the cards; which gives them added power. The above video is an accurate account of Tarot's history, which stems from a European card game that developed in the Renaissance called Tarrochi. As stated in the previous post, learning the cards is a commitment to scholarship. It is interesting to note, that the above video is made by a skeptic of the cards use in divination. However, I am a proponent of the theory that the cards enable the querent (seeker) to get in touch with higher self, which is a concept that I will look at further, as I continue to post clips and thoughts on Tarot throughout the day!

Enjoy,
JYN

* For an excellent and scholarly look into the history of Tarot, and the cards use in divination, I recommend the book the Tarot (History, Symbolism, and Divination) by Robert M. Place

Nereids' Enchantments Blog (Shifting Focus)

This post is the result of personal reflection about the direction I want my blog to take. For about two years, I have been blogging with no real understanding of why I was being compelled to post. I did not have a clear vision of what I wanted to create. I just started sharing clips, ideas, and tidbits that interested me, thinking they may be of interest to others as well, and they have been! So, a big THANK YOU to all that have found me over the last two years! Now, I would like to establish a community! One for the spiritual seeker, who has an open mind, and is open to exploring the realm of possibilities that lie in our multi-dimensional existence.

Looking back over journals that I have kept throughout the years, the one thing that I have always discussed, besides teaching, was writing (with an emphasis on myth, magic, fairytales, and folklore). In 2006 I committed to returning to school, and completed my Masters in Education, because I was compelled to teach, just like in undergrad when I was compelled to heal (and pursued a degree/career in social work). Now the time has come for me to pursue my path as a writer, which I have been focused on for the last two years!

I have studied the esoteric and occult since high school, lifelong hobbies that coincided with my educational and career pursuits (but I have really grown so much, by being able to focus on my personal studies for the past two years, with no other distractions). And now, I am coming out of the spiritual closet (metaphorically speaking) and I am going to really begin and share the knowledge that I have compiled, read, and written about over the last fifteen years, as I tried to seek out the meaning to life, the truth behind religion, astrology, tarot, astronomy, numerology, symbolism (these are to name a few). I definitely do not have the answers, but will begin to share my thoughts, and I hope that in turn inspires you to share with me your thoughts, comments, questions, opinions, as well...

The meaning to life, why we are here/our path are lifelong questions, meant to be worked out daily, as we live and learn the lessons that this life has to offer (I have come to believe in reincarnation and past lives). I have also come to believe that there are no wrong choices, so each experience that we are having is a lesson meant to be learned, as we grow and move forward on our path, we are meant to be where we are at any given moment.
This does not negate the fact that there will be struggles and lows, but understand that the struggles and lows are lessons ordered by our higher self, which is plugged into the universal flow, and understands the greater good. Even if your present moment seems hopeless and unsupported, it is serving a higher purpose (the experience serves as keys to connecting with source). I use the metaphor of key quite often in my work, for we are unlocking a mystery!

I have hinted at my beliefs and ideas in posts since this blogs inception. But, I have not been outwardly sharing my spiritual ideas, because much of my thinking is on the fringe, and is repressed in a seemingly religious world, that is afraid of ghosts, fairies, elves, unicorns, witches, and wizards (to name a few), yet at the core of all religions is a belief in the otherworldly, godly, and divine...the supernatural, which is part of the wonder and mystery of life. I play with concepts of the fictional world in fact being reality, for I have come to believe that reality exists in layers, metaphors, and symbols. Which means that many times, we have to look beyond the surface, to what lies underneath, in order to discern, what in fact is truth.

This post is meant to shift the direction of this blog, into a more erudite and spiritual realm, although I will continue to post on the mundane, I thought a disclaimer was needed for what is to come ;)

I find this clip hysterical! It reminds me of my travels to Poland.

AC 360: Dave Chappelle, Pt. 1 of 2

I can relate to so much in this clip! I think that many
can, even though the average person is not handling that
type of money, many have felt unnecessary stress and pressure
in the work environment, especially with the turn the economy
has taken, and the everyday American feeling the burden of big
business and the risks they take at any price, as they fight to keep
wealth contained within 1% of the population.

And by no means is this just a problem in the states, I bet people
worldwide can relate to unnecessary stress and pressure at work...

Lyrics to Kanye West: Power

I’m livin’ in the 21st century
Doin’ something mean to it
Do it better than anybody you ever seen do it
Screams from the haters, got a nice ring to it
I guess every superhero need his theme music

No one man should have all that power
The clock’s tickin’, I just count the hours
Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the power
(21st century schizoid man)

The system broken, the schools closed, the prisons open
We ain’t got nothin’ to lose, ma’f-cka, we rollin’
Huh? Ma’f-cka, we rollin’
With some light-skinned girls and some Kelly Rowlands
In this white man’s world, we the ones chosen
So goodnight, cruel world, I see you in the mornin’
Huh? I see you in the mornin’
This is way too much, I need a moment

No one man should have all that power
The clock’s tickin’, I just count the hours
Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the power
‘Til then, f-ck that, the World’s ours

And then they (Go)
And then they
And then they (Go)
And then they (21st century schizoid man)

F-ck SNL and the whole cast
Tell ‘em Yeezy said they can kiss my whole ass
More specifically, they can kiss my asshole
I’m an asshole? You n-ggas got jokes
You short-minded n-ggas’ thoughts is Napoleon
My furs is Mongolian, my ice brought the goalies in
Now I embody every characteristic of the egotistic
He know, he so, f-ckin’ gifted
I just needed time alone, with my own thoughts
Got treasures in my mind but couldn’t open up my own vault
My childlike creativity, purity and honesty
Is honestly being prodded by these grown thoughts
Reality is catchin’ up with me
Takin’ my inner child, I’m fighting for it, custody

With these responsibilities that they entrusted me
As I look down at my dia-mond-encrusted piece

N-gga, no one man should have all that power
The clock’s tickin’, I just count the hours
Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the power
‘Til then, f-ck that, the World’s ours

And then they (Go)
And then they
And then they (Go)
And then they
And then they (Go)
And then they (21st century schizoid man)

Colin Powells, Austin Powers
Lost in translation with a whole f-ckin’ nation
They say I was the obamanation (abomination) of Obama’s nation
Well, that’s a pretty bad way to start the conversation
At the end of day, goddammit, I’m killin’ this sh-t
I know damn well y’all feelin’ this sh-t
I don’t need yo’ p-ssy, bitch, I’m on my own d-ck
I ain’t gotta power trip, who you goin’ home with?
How ‘Ye doin’? I’m survivin’
I was drinkin’ earlier, now I’m drivin’
Where the bad bitches, huh? Where ya hidin’?
I got the power, make yo’ life so excitin’ (So excitin’)

Now this would be a beautiful death
Jumpin’ out the window
Lettin’ everything go
Lettin’ everything go

N-now-now this would be a beautiful death
Jumpin’ out the window
Lettin’ everything go
Lettin’ everything go

Now this would be a beautiful death
Jumpin’ out the window
Lettin’ everything go
Lettin’ everything go

You got the power to let power go

Bill Maher on American Innovation

I don't necessarily agree with all points on this clip, BUT the fact is that America
needs to move away from making everything profitable!!

Private prisons = More people (especially minorities) incarcerated
Private public schools (The Charters) = CEO's as principals with no
background in education
Private companies involved in war = endangering troops who work for the government
Private healthcare = A sick nation that is dependent on a corrupt medical system

These are just a few examples. Can you think of any more?
Green technology and not moving jobs/companies overseas for "globalization" are steps in the right direction!

This is a great interview about the power of myth!

July ruled by 7

We are in the seventh month of the year! According to Santos Bonacci (Mr. Astrotheology), 7 is one of the most sacred numbers that exists...

There are:
~Seven Liberal Arts
~Seven Chakras
~Seven Pillars of Wisdom
~In Hindu/Greek myth there are 7 Sages
~According to the Aborigines there are 7 sisters of wandering Dreamtime
~In early Astronomy/Astrology there were seven wandering stars- the celestial body
~Seven Wonders of the World
~The Seven Sisters- The Pleiades

In Jewish tradition, seven is a most sacred number

The Egyptians referred to the seven veils of Isis: beneath these veils lie the mysteries and ageless wisdom of the past

There are seven stages in alchemy

The Bible is full of Sevens:
~Seven days of creation
~Seven seals in the Book of Revelations
~The number 7 is mentioned 77 times in the old testament
~There are seven virtues

Seven is a spiritual number, with a strong connection to our bodies (the chakras) and spirit.  Fairy tales, myth, and folklore are full of sevens. What other seven can you come up with?  Feel free to post any additional seven in the comments :)

Awakening

There is so much creative energy in the air! I just took an amazing step toward releasing past dramas, with former attachments being released as I move forward on my path!

"The first step to loving yourself is to listen to yourself"

These past couple of years, I have been focused on aligning with my purpose; seeking fulfillment in all areas of my life (meaning that I am sustained by purposeful and meaningful work which brings me joy and creative freedom). Through deep introspection, I have focused on spinning the thread to tell many tales, and as they all come together, I realize that I have been driven by a force greater than myself; with the intent to illuminate and spread truth, love, and light - so it is! I am getting so close to being able to share my truth with the world, and it excites me!

"It is important that we learn what is love, because that is the energy that the creator uses to create"

"We come here to experience separation, so that we can feel as if the creator is not there, but it is an illusion, because he [she] is a part of us"

As I continue to search for truth, I realize that the power is in creation. We all have the power to create, and therefore, to get in touch with your inner truth, means that you are in tune with what you love to create here in the 3rd dimension. Use your Imagination, for it is key to unlocking your truth, and opening the magic within!

New Moon/Summer Solstice

We are in the midst of the third in a series of summer eclipses, that coincides with the New Moon in Cancer. This eclipse, can only be seen over Antarctica (and perhaps the most Southern points of Africa, not sure), but we are all tapped into the energies, created, by this culmination, of three very powerful eclipses this summer. Everything that I have been reading has been discussing the difficult, yet rewarding energies that we have been moving through. And, all new moons represent beginnings, so this is a great time to reflect on new projects that you have been sitting on, starting to really ignite the spark that brings the idea into creation. All new moons can be seen as a rebirth as well, so really focus and meditate on letting go of negative thought patterns that have been holding you back, as we head into July, and the height of summer, renewed, with a fresh outlook!

Pause, completely unrelated moment of hilarity, listening to Real Time With Bill Maher on Podcast, and he asked what is the difference between Walmart and Target (and the audience, plus myself took a pause!). Two different stores Bill, yes both corporate, BUT the quality at Target is notable, I can't even walk into a Walmart, but, can definitely go and shop at Target! I mean Target carries cheaper lines by MAJOR designers, while Walmart carries (you fill in the blank)!

Relax, and unwind, if you are in the US enjoy the holiday weekend, always remember that we create the now, which sets in motion the positive events of the future!! Never let go of your dreams, and always push forward, knowing that you have manifested all that you desire! Yet, there is a greater universal order at work, don't let problems define YOU, because YOU are always where you need to be.

Summer Solstice 2011

This year, I have been a hermit (for the most part ;). About a month ago I disconnected from Facebook, and turned within for a period of self reflection, as I continue to build my dreams! I am working on several projects, and can feel my vision coming together. At the start of the New Year on January 1st, I caught Doreen Virtue's new year reading, for what was ahead in 2011, she said that this would be the year of the entrepreneur, and I can feel that as well. Old systems are falling, the wealth will no longer be contained within in 1% of the population! The time has come to live out your dreams, and create the life that you want, at all times (many times this is easier said than done), but hold your intentions and believe that your dreams will manifest.

This morning I read a post somewhere about the animals that we encounter (besides our pets), in daily life, holding meaning and messages, and this morning, on a rock outside my house I saw a Salamander, connected to the element of Fire, the spark of creativity. We are at the height of summer, and in the midst of the days of the most light.

Yesterday, for the longest day of the year I sat by the River, with my dog, closed my eye's and listened to the birds in nature, I think that is how I may end the night again. 2011 for me has been about reconnecting with self, Earth, and nature...

"Over hill, over dale. Through bush, through brier. Over park, over pale. Through flood, through fire, I do wander everywhere."

New Year Eclipses

This has been a time filled with amazing energy! The Winter Solstice of 2010 (12/21/10) was a extremely powerful and magical night, with a full moon and lunar eclipse. Then, yesterday during the new moon, there was also a solar eclipse! Two eclipses in less than a month...the power of the night and the moon, and the power from the light (daytime) and the sun.

For me 2011, is about growing the seeds that I have planted over the last few years, and my focus is on taking my power back!

For a long time I have risen with the sun, but only recently did I begin to appreciate the power of tuning into the rising and setting sun. For the past year I have been focused on both the sunrise and sunset, and both have had a profoundly positive impact on my life. The energy in the morning wakes me up and invigorates me for the upcoming day, and twilight has a way of shifting my focus from the daily chores of my day, to the restful and recuperative nature of the evening and night.

A new moon is a great time to focus on beginnings. How fitting this year that the new moon also coincides with the new year. Tip, make a list of things you want to accomplish, put away in a place that you see (as a memory trigger about your yearly goals). Caves

I have a new love recently, and it is to explore caves!!! My husband and I recently took a day trip to Penn's Caves, and I had the best time! The cave is seen on a boat tour. I had the added bonus of the caves legend being connected to the college I attended (inside you can see the original Nittany Lion, which is the Penn State mascot). The guide explained that there are about 70-80 tourist caves throughout the United States...visiting caves is def. something to add to the list when on a vacation somewhere by a cave open to the public. The guide at Penn's Cave also suggested touring caves in Arizona, I can see how that would be amazing...

Full Moon Last Night

Capitalize on the energy of last night's full moon!  Burn a white candle, and meditate, seeing what lies within...

Some information on last nights moon is below:

Moon Above the Water

The Full Moon in Scorpio normally is a magical time of regeneration and rebirth.

That’s all the more true for the Scorpio Full Moon on April 28, thanks to a smooth, flowing connection between the Sun, Moon, and Pluto, Scorpio’s ruler. Moreover, the Sun is in tight conjunction with retrograde Mercury, and Pluto is retrograde, too. Retrograde periods are good for activities starting with “re.” So why not regeneration and rebirth?

As we go through the great cosmic shift of 2010-2012, much in our lives is dying in order to be reborn. We are healing and regenerating, according to ancient cycles of the stars, gods, and humans.

In the Buddhist tradition, the Full Moon in Scorpio is Wesak, celebrated as the day of the Buddha’s enlightenment. Now, technically, Wesak isn’t until May 27, because Buddhists use sidereal astrology, which is a sign “off” from our Western tropical system. Still, we can use the symbolism of Wesak to help us understand the significance of the Full Moon with Sun in Taurus and Moon in Scorpio.

Ruled by lovely Venus, Taurus is the “earthiest” of the earth signs, while Scorpio is the sign of death, regeneration and rebirth. Seeing how the unmanifest comes into existence in the physical world and then disappears back into the unmanifest is key to enlightened consciousness. It liberates us from errors in our thinking that lead to needless stress and suffering.

The Sun at 8°07′ Taurus tightly conjoins Mercury at 8°24′ Taurus, opposite the Moon at 8°07′ Scorpio. Mercury is just under halfway through his retrograde phase, which is often right about the time we really start feeling the effects.

Some of us may feel a bit lazy. If you’re going to succumb to being a couch potato, this is the time to do it! While it may seem like “unenlightened behavior,” I don’t see it that way. To the contrary, it’s often helpful to get your mind completely off a problem so that the deep psyche can work unimpeded. The trine from Mercury to retrograde Pluto will help gain deeper insight, if you just step out of the way and let the process happen. When you return your attention to the issue at hand, you may experience sudden new insight and inspiration. I especially recommend this for intellectual types who live a lot of the time in their heads.

On the downside, it may be hard for some people to open up to new ideas under this influence. If someone is giving you a hard time for being too entrenched in ideas or habits, listen! They may or may not be right, but the fact that they’re bringing it up is your cue for self-examination. Consider the message as a gift.

Also, Venus is at 4° Gemini, inconjunct Pluto and in mutual reception with Mercury. Venus in Gemini loves to talk, talk, talk, but that may get you in trouble when Mercury is retrograde. Words can be misconstrued. It might be better to let our actions speak for themselves, but that could lead to problems, too, with action planet Mars squaring the Sun and Moon. It will be hard for everyone to shrug off perceived slights.

Saturn and Uranus are approaching opposition, which may end up being the real news at this Full Moon. I wrote about this in my weekly forecast and will have more in tomorrow’s post.

Lastly, Ceres is stationed near Pluto, set to turn retrograde later in the day. According to classical mythology, Ceres dared to confront Jupiter and Pluto over the disappearance of her daughter and held them accountable for their actions. I think we’ll see this mostly in societal terms, as the powers that be are forced to take responsibility for bad public policy, especially concerning the economy and environment.

However, we may see some effects in our private lives, too. At the very least, we may need to reflect on how past decisions or behavior are affecting us in the present. It’s never too late to change!

For the Moon at 8°07′ Scorpio, the Sabian Symbol** is dental work, with the keyword PRACTICALITY. Most of us don’t pay nearly the attention to our spiritual health as we do to our physical bodies, and yet this is what’s needed in order to maintain a “healthy soul” that can connect with others in our soul community.

The Sabian Symbol for the Sun at 8°07′ Taurus is a Christmas tree decorated, with the keyword SYMBOLIZATION. An image of the winter holidays might seem out of place at this time of year, but its message is of spiritual renewal through sharing with friends and family. One of the most important things we can share with others is our unique gift to the world, and often we must go through a spiritual “death” and regeneration to find it.

It’s the classic tale of the hero’s journey, which takes us to hell and back.

Being Born On The 20th Day of The Month!

The following information is from AstroTruths.com:

If You Are Born On The 2nd,11th,20th, or 29th Of Any Month Then You Are a #2 Person

The number 2 is symbolic of the moon. It also has feminine attributes of the Sun, and, for this reason alone, although number 1 and number 2 people are decidedly opposite in their characters, their vibrations are harmonious and they make good combinations.

Number 2 people are all those who are born on the 2nd, 11th, 20th, or 29th in any month, but their characteristics even more highlighted if they are born between the 20th of June to the 27th July. This period being what is called the "House of the Moon."
Number 2 and 1 persons vibrate together, and to a lesser degree they also vibrate with number 7 people, such as those born on the 7th, 16th, or 25th in any month.
General Characteristics Of Person Born On The 2nd,11th.20th,29th Of Month
Number 2 persons are gentle by nature, imaginative, artistic, and romantic. Like the number 1 people, they are also inventive, but they are not as forceful in carrying out their ideas. Their qualities are more on the mental than the physical plane and they are seldom as strong physically as those born under the number 1.
Their chief faults- they should guard against being restless and unsettled, lack of continuity in their plans and ideas, and lack of self-confidence. They are also inclined to be oversensitive, and easily get despondent and melancholy if they are not in happy surroundings.

Number 2 persons should endeavour to carry out their chief plans and ideas on days whose numbers vibrate with their own, such as on the 2nd, 11th, 20th, or 29th of any month, but more especially during the period of June 20th to July 27th.

Fortunate or "lucky" days of the week- Sunday, Monday, and Friday (Friday is favourable because it is governed by Venus), and especially so if, like the number 1 people, one of their own numbers should fall on either of these days, such as the 2nd, 11th, 20th, or 29th, and next to these their interchangeable numbers of 1, 4, 7, such as the 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th, 13th, 16th, 19th, 22nd, 25th, 28th, or 31st.

For" lucky" colours they should wear all shades of green, from the darkest to the lightest, also cream and white. They should avoid all dark colours, especially black, purple, and dark red.

Their" lucky" stones and jewels are pearls, moonstones, pale green stones, and they should carry a piece of jade always with them, and, if possible, next to their skin.

Glinda The Good Witch

I have always been drawn to The Wizard of Oz.  A quote from the movie that inspires me:
"[to Dorothy] You don't need to be helped any longer. You've always had the power to go back to Kansas".

This quote reminds us all that the power lies within.  Seek it out, and you will be free. You have the power to live out your dreams...it starts with you!

Questioning Angels

In an nation that is Religious...with most people ascribing to some sort of faith...why is it taboo to say that you believe in angels and other spirits...when most of us profess to believe in some type of god?

Feng Shui for the Bedroom

My husband and I moved recently. In our new home I made a few key changes to our sleeping habits that have been amazing! Mainly, the removal of all things related to the outside world.

In our old home, I tended to work in bed.  I think this lead to my mind racing until I passed out every night with things I needed to do... Creating a better sleep environment for myself, was key to making over the more relaxed and focused me.  Overall, I wanted to slip into a more laid back and relaxing lifestyle.  I wanted to create a stress free home that opened itself up to meditation, work, and yoga.

Our bedroom has a cottage style, shabby chic decor (one that I have favored over the years, and has moved with me in all three of the homes that my husband and I have shared). With this last move we no longer have a television.  I limited the photos.  With a rule of no photos of anyone besides my husband and myself, and even then I only have one of us.

I also enjoy artwork with no people, in the bedroom. For me, the artwork is mostly flowers (I find them soothing).  I also have a painting that I can escape into hung over my bed.  I decorated the room with keepsakes form our travels, all of which remind me of happy times.

I hope that some of the things I have suggested allow you to create a more relaxing bedroom, no matter where you live!  Btw, the picture is not my own bedroom...but how ideal!  All about the visualization!

P.S. (August 2012)  This post is from 2010, and reading over it, I am happy to see how much I have grown in my Feng Shui knowledge.  As I continue to research the ancient art of Feng Shui, I have been able to improve my home environment.  For me, white furniture in the bedroom brings a feeling of peace.  Yet, I have since learned that it is bad Feng Shui to have a mirror reflecting the bed (as seen in the picture above).  Confirmed, after just finishing a recent episode to the Blog Talk Radio show Psychic Teachers on Feng Shui. In that episode Samantha Fey stated that she has heard conflicting things on mirrors in the bedroom.  As such, she avoids them in this space all together. For me it felt right when she stated this. Therefore, I would say it is best to avoid mirrors in this space.

It feels good to clear spaces of clutter.  Donate, purge, and throw away constantly!  It will keep the energy in your life flowing!  And you can never sage a space too much!  If you don't use it, loose it...

Lady Bugs

The first time that I was drawn to the Lady Bug was in Prague. My husband and I were in the city, I was in a gift shop. I saw a Lady Bug crystal figurine, was drawn to it and purchased. Since then, the Lady Bug has been a fixture on the sink in my house.

We recently moved. We settled into our new home a week before Christmas. Our first night with our new home, in the empty house, we noticed Lady Bugs on the windowsill in the living room. Since we moved in, Lady Bugs have been spotted by my husband and myself on a regular basis. So, I decided to look into the symbolism behind the insect that I have always been happy to see when it has popped into my life.
I found the following blurb on this fascinating insect:

The ladybug is a member of the beetle family. They are found in nearly all climates and latitudes. They are hemispheric in shape, have short legs and are usually bright colored with black, yellow or reddish markings. Most reproduce sexually and females lay eggs. Their life cycle requires about four weeks, so several generations are produced each summer. This ties the ladybug to the energies of renewal and regeneration. Those with this totem are usually family oriented with strong morals and social values. The name lady bug originated in the middle ages when this beetle was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and called the "beetle of our lady." This links the ladybug to spiritual idealism and religious devotion. Past lives associated with religion or the church are common for those with this medicine and some form of daily meditation or prayer are recommended. This tiny little beetle packs a powerful message. Because the life cycle of the adult ladybug is short it teaches us how to release our worry and enjoy our life to the fullest. When it appears in our life it is telling us to "let go and let God."An adult ladybug can consume several thousand aphids and other scale insects within a few months. Since these can be harmful to crop production farmers and growers have long considered the ladybug a good omen. Because of its diet the ladybug often has parasites and those with this medicine need to take care of their digestive system. The ladybug is one of the few beetles that are well liked by humans. Unlike other beetles, the ladybug stirs a feeling of joy within us. Its small size denotes a delicate and loving nature. It emanates the energy of harmlessness and can show us how to stop harming ourselves. The shell on its back serves to protect it from predators. Its wings fold against the body protecting its soft underside. Ladybugs have keen instincts and feel vibrations through their legs. This enables them to sense the energy of whatever they touch and is another form of protection. In spite of its size it appears to be fearless. A messenger of promise, the ladybug reconnects us with the joy of living. Fear does not live within joy. The need to release our fears and return to love is one of the messages it carries.  Ladybug teaches us how to restore our faith and trust in great spirit. It initiates change where it is needed the most. When ladybug appears it is asking us to get out of our own way and allow great spirit to enter.

Sarah Kruzan

Today I got wind of a story that shows how much work still needs to be done to achieve justice and peace in the world. Sarah Kruzan (from a broken home, with a drug dependant mother) at 16 was sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing her pimp G.G. Her pimp proved to be an older child molesting manipulator, who forced Sarah into a life of prostitution at the tender age of 13, working the streets from 6pm to 6am, not able to even keep any of the money she had earned.
She kills him...and in a gripping you tube clip she states...I should be punished...I killed someone...BUT how much? I don't know...I don't feel that this young girl at 29 should have to suffer the rest of her life behind bars! Do you?

Update on 6/29/12:
I have noticed that this post in gaining momentum, so I just added the actual YouTube clip of Sarah discussing her case.  Hearing her story is heartbreaking...sending her peace and love...and hoping her story continues to gain awareness, so that one day, she is free!

Halloween Celebartions

Today is Halloween! A universal holiday, but it is observed in different ways around the world. This year I am looking forward to the good old American way...candy, costumes, and parties!
Last year, my husband and I were in Poland for the holiday, visiting family. In Poland the holiday is celebrated on November 1, and it is a day of remembrance. So, last year we went to the cemetary and brought candles and flowers to loved ones that had passed. Keeping my husbands Polish traditions going within our home, I have lit a candle in remembrance of our lost loved ones.
For those that believe, this is said to be the time of year where the veil between our world and the otherworld is at it's thinest! However you celebrate, enjoy the day!
