Democracy and monotheism; where do these ideas stem from?

I always try to find a quote that encapsulates an idea I am pondering at any given time.  As I review this article, I am also re-examining the book The Secret History of the World by Mark Booth.  In his book’s preface he writes, “By weaving together humanity’s mystical imaginings about the origins of the cosmos, its history and future-magical stories of creative gods and spirits, magi and adepts, of great historical characters guided by the stars and inspired by angels- I try to show that there are perhaps deeper, richer patterns in history than the economic and narrowly political ones that conventional history allows, and that these patterns are supernatural in the sense that they just would not be happening if science explains everything there is.” My goals are similar with this series of essays, where I try to piece together my research, connecting the pieces that I have uncovered in my personal quest for truth.

When studying the occult (which literally means hidden) philosophies and subject areas, it is important to have a filter with all that is read.  In fact, this is a good practice to adopt with all the information you read. Follow your heart and discern what feels true.  The study of hidden information is a field led by your intuition - take that which speaks as truth for you, and leave behind that which does not serve you.  I hope that this series of essays aids the seeker and ignites the spark for the person who lies at the precipice, with their arms open wide, about to take the leap of the fool.

This series highlights peculiar things in 3D (linear space-time occupied by all living things on Earth and beyond).  The more I research, the more I see that things are not what they seem on the surface.  Metaphorically, truth lies between the lines.  I often think about whether we, as a collective, are living a dream; as I write this piece I release a metaphorical white rose into the ebb and flow of the universal connectivity (the collective unconscious as termed by Carl Jung).  This article purposefully leaves many holes for further study.  Please feel free to post comments about connections that you have made!  Dream, Love, Believe…  ~JYN

Recently, the website Secrets in Plain Sight illuminated me on the fact that Egypt seems to be of high importance to Western societies and cultures, with ancient Egyptian symbols woven into modern and Masonic culture (note: many believe that the masons are the architects behind our current societal construct).  Obelisks appear as monuments at the Vatican, Washington, D.C. and London.  Egyptian art is on display in the British Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, where another obelisk also sits in Central Park.  In recent pop culture, Madonna's Super Bowl performance was packed with Egyptian symbolism.  She presented herself as many incarnations of the goddess, with definite nods to Isis and Hathor, including a throne adorned with hieroglyphics.

What is at the root of western culture’s fascination with Egyptian society?  While reading Manly P. Hall’s book The Secret Destiny of America, it brought up many questions for me.  Mainly, where does our idea of democracy stem from?  What is the idea of democracy in a nation that is so heavily rooted in perpetuating war?  Hall states that the Pharaoh Akhenaten is the father of democracy, and that sacrificing his life and city led to the American democratic ideal.  Written in 1944, Hall’s thesis states that American democracy is part of a universal plan.  Given the current political climate and America’s political leaders having a continued agenda that entails spreading democracy (even if that means perpetuating war), his thesis poses an interesting theory. What is this universal plan that Manly P. Hall refers to?  The plan is set forth as being good for all, but how is the “good for all” determined?

Modern man is experiencing an awakening, linked to our ancient past, and the myths that have been embedded into the collective.  Historically, as society evolved it moved further away from ancient myths and legends (polytheism), and toward the Bible becoming the predominant spiritual text as monarchies and priesthoods fought for power and control.  Many are now looking back at the ancient past to discover their roots and for explanations about the origins of civilization.

The mystery schools of the ancient philosophical scholar sought out the learned for initiation into their sects, sometimes killing anyone who divulged their teachings, and creating the sub-rosa atmosphere behind esoteric and occult teachings that extends into present day.  In The Secret History of the World, Booth states, “Then in the third century the temples of the ancient world were closed down as Christianity became the ruling religion of the Roman Empire.  The danger of ‘proliferation’ was addressed by declaring these secrets heretical, and trafficking in them continued to be a capital offence.  But as we shall see, members of the ruling elite, including Church leaders, now began to form secret societies.  Behind closed doors they continued to teach the old secrets.”

Religious history tracks the change of matriarchal societies (goddess based cultures and religions), where the divine feminine was celebrated to patriarchal monotheism. Many mystery schools existed under the goddess influence. There was a shift in consciousness (headed by patriarchy), which led to a single god at the heart of monotheistic religions in modern times (the suppression of the divine feminine).  The suppression of the feminine is why females are unable to serve within the priesthood of the Catholic Church.  Many truth seekers have tracked how organized religion, when taken literally, is meant as a trap for the masses.  The mystery schools of the past, and the secret societies of the present, are well aware of the truth, which is encoded for those who have “the eyes to see and the ears to hear”, according to the mythic Jesus.

Many of the founding fathers, up to present day presidents, belong to secret societies.  It is important that Americans begin to discern the teachings that lie at the core of occult/esoteric philosophies because these are the core teachings/secrets of freemasonry and other esoteric orders which many of our leaders ascribe to. Perhaps understanding these teachings will illuminate the hidden agenda of the US’s current rulers who have memberships in secret societies like the Skull and Bones, which President Bush joined during his college days at Yale.  Many of our political leaders attend secret ceremonies like Cremation of Care, an annual ritual held in Northern California’s Bohemian Grove, where attendees  pay homage to their effigy: the owl (for more on owl symbolism, visit my entry on this animal and its symbolism here).

Let’s look at the definition of democracy in a Standard English dictionary, where Merriam Webster states:
Democracy-
1a. government by the people; especially; rule of the majority
1b. a government in which the extreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representations usually involving periodically held free elections
2. A political unit that has a democratic government
3. Capitalized: the principles and policies of the Democratic Party in the United States
4. The common people especially when constituting the source of political authority
            5. The absence of hereditary or arbitrary class distinctions or privileges

Second, let’s review a definition of government according to dictionary.com: the political direction and control exercised over the actions of the members, citizens, or inhabitants of communities, societies, and states; direction of the affairs of the state, community, etc.; political administration: Government is necessary to the existence of civilized society.

Now back to our look at the Pharaoh Akhenaten who has been put before us as the creator of democracy according to Hall.  Akhenaten is also credited with the start of monotheism because under his rule the focus in Egypt shifted to the worship of the sun (the cult of Aton), away from the many gods that the Amun priesthood (those who held power in ancient Egypt) worshipped. Ahmed Osman gives a historical recount on Akhenaten during his Red Ice Radio interview on 10/12/11.  Osman has been looking at the links between Christianity and Egypt for the last 20 years, correlating the archeological records of Egypt with biblical accounts.  Through his research he has concluded that Moses (which in ancient Egypt meant the son or successor of the heir) is in fact also Pharaoh Akhenaten, and that this divide between Aton and Amun was really about the balance of power; with Akhenaten asserting his authority over the Amun priests when he shifted worship from Amun (many gods) to Aton (sun worship).

Akhenaten is the son of Amenhotep III and Queen Tighe, but she was not his first wife.  Yet, she was the favored wife of this Pharaoh. Akhenaten was originally known as Amenhotep IV.  In Egypt,
ruler-ship went through the female line during the holy marriage of the Pharaoh to his first wife.  Therefore, when Amenhotep IV went before the priests of Amun for their blessing to take over the throne after his father’s death, he was rejected because he was not destined to rule according to Egyptian laws for passing on royal lineage.  As a result, Amenhotep IV assumed the name Akhenaten, rejected the priests of Amun (and their many gods), and stated that the one true god is Aton (the light).  By shifting the people’s worship of many gods to the one god of the sun, Akhenaten was diminishing the rule of the priestly class. He then proceeded to build the city of Amarna and rule there for 10 years.  According to Osman, it is historically written that Akhenaten dies, but in fact this is not true.   Instead he gave up power, fled to Sinai, and assumed the name Moses.

In myth the Abrahamic religions began when Abraham started to hear the voice of God, and began spreading the word to his fellow man that they should abandon their Pagan idols and start following the voice of the one lord.  As monotheism developed, ministers and priests took on the job of translating the word of God (left to them in the Bible) to the masses.  Ahmed Osman states that Abraham is the start of God without an image, and that Akhenaten is responsible for coming up with the idea of a universal god for everyone.

Reflection on Akhenaten in ancient Egypt suggests that monotheism can in fact be traced to the cult of Aton (which was the start of the sun cults to which Christianity can be linked.  Hence, the religion’s veneration of the solar cross), rather than Abraham in Sumerian culture.  Also, the concept of monotheism was directly related to the ruler, the Pharaoh Akhenaten, trying to diminish the power of the priestly class.  Akhenaten has become a mythic figure in modern times as the husband to his famed Queen Nefertiti; he has been credited as the first civilized ruler of the ancient world.

This perhaps is why Manly P. Hall gives Akhenaten credit for starting the democratic ideal, which would later lay the blueprint for America.  Hall states that the ancient world (Egypt, Greece, and China) was well aware of America, and had even sent ships to explore the nation’s lands prior to Columbus and his fleet, which have historically been credited with discovering the New World in 1492.  According to Hall, the lands of America were mapped out and put aside for a democratic experiment/program as far back as the time of Akhenaten.  Perhaps this explains America and England’s obsession with Egypt and its symbols since Hall is crediting Egypt with being the seed of democracy, and perhaps Akhenaten spear -headed the shift of society/civilization in the direction of patriarchy.

The cycles of history always hold unbelievable synchronicities!  This piggybacks on the concept of America operating an empire under the blueprint of democracy, which Hall has stated is part of a universal plan, trying to spread power and influence throughout the world.  The United Stated joined forces with France and participated in Libyan air-raids on March 19, 2011.  This date is of great importance in the ancient Egyptian world, and for the ancients in general, because this is the traditional New Year – the vernal equinox, when night and day are in perfect balance, and we have entered into the rebirth and renewal of spring in the northern hemisphere.

In 2011, this date also marked the Jewish festival of Purim, which is linked to the ancient goddess Esther (also another name for the pop icon Madonna).  Coincidentally, this was also the date of the second Bush’s invasion of Iraq a decade earlier.  The Libyan uprisings were part of Arab Spring, which coincided with the successful overthrowing of Mubarak in Egypt during his 30th year in office.  An interview with Barbara Hand Clow on Red Ice Radio (3/31/11) highlighted all of the above coincidences, and the fact that in ancient Egypt, the 30th year of a Pharaoh’s rule was marked with an important ceremony.  Mubarak and the previous Egyptian president Anwar Sadat were both taken out of their presidencies in their 30th year as rulers, which has interesting historical parallels and one should wonder if this was a coincidence.

In conclusion, looking to the past really seems to illuminate the events of modern day.  Is it a coincidence that modern Egyptian rulers seem to be in power for thirty years?  Can you imagine that the blueprint for the United States began as far back as ancient Egyptian times?  Have you always been of the viewpoint that the ancients travelled the world and had access to each other?  As one essay ends, questions continue to mount, and so another essay begins…
